Our Mission
The Burning Love Institute was founded to enrich the lives of others through humor and insight. We seek to entertain, enliven, and enlighten mankind. Chicks too.
Our History
It was the Spring of 2003. The sun was shining, the birds were singing, and Bush was invading Iraq. Unfortunately, America was either too lazy or too ignorant to question authority. And the mainstream media, more interested in making profits than serving the public, went right along with the lies.
So a handful of honest Americans started sharing periodic emails with friends and families, some of who had been blinded by the patriotic bullshit being spewed by Bush and his well-oiled propaganda machine. We used humor to get people’s attention and then logical arguments, backed up by multi-sourced facts, to open their eyes and expose the lies.
From there, things evolved into a full-blown Webzine, The Burning Love Institute. We expanded beyond news and commentary to include amusing stories and other items of interest. We eventually added book and movie reviews. Throughout it all, our goal has remained true – to inform, educate, enlighten, and inspire.
The Burning Love Institute was published through the fall of 2007, though quite inconsistently. And now we’ve resurrected the online publication, albeit with more modest ambitions.
There will still be some angry rants about politics and religion. That’s unavoidable. But hopefully will find more humor than heat. And we’ve added a new area, local news focusing on the Upper Yorkville neighborhood.
We hope that those who take the time to visit The Burning Love Institute will come away with at least a renewed interest, if not an urgency to question authority and investigate things for themselves. We hope that we can inspire people to take a more active interest in our national and international affairs – in the world at large – so that we can prevent such shameless calamities from happening again in the future. Plus, we promise a few laughs.
As for those unsure of the difference between a Webzine and a blog, here is where we draw the line. Instead of writing pithy little posts (though you will find some of those), we tend to prefer longer articles. You don’t see much of that these days, online or in print. And we also multi-source our facts from reputable sources, so we’re not spreading stupidity (unless, of course, it’s widespread stupidity). We treat this like a magazine, albeit with no publication timeline, instead of a traditional blog. We trust you’ll appreciate both the distinction and the effort.
Regarding our writing, the literary influences that have inspired The Burning Love Institute include: M. Bowden, A. Bourdain, N. Chomsky, A. Dershowitz, T.L. Friedman, E. Hemingway, S.M. Hersh, H. Hesse, J. Kerouac, H. Miller, A. Nin, E.A. Poe, J.D. Salinger, J.P. Sarte, W. Shakespeare, H.S. Thompson, M. Twain, K. Vonnegut, T. Wolfe, B. Woodward, F. Zakaria, and H. Zinn. Unless otherwise attributed, the photos and videos were taken by our staff and should not be used without permission.
As always, we hope you enjoy what we have to say as much as you enjoy how we say it.
